www.siam-legal.comTseng Mao-hsin, Yani's father, said Yan Bin (Thai name Chanchai Ruayrungruang) has offered Yani a 25-million-US-dollar five-year contract, the China Times daily and the Central News Agency (CNA) reported.

"But I hope her sponsors can be Taiwan companies. We have talked with some Taiwan firms, but nothing came out of it," CNA quoted Tseng Mao-hsin as saying.

"Yani (who lives in the US) will visit Taiwan on April 25. We will discuss her contracts then," he added.

Yani, 21, is ranked No 2 on the US LPGA list. Mexico's Lorenza Ochoa ranks No 1.

Like some other Taiwan's top athletes, she has complained about lack of support from the Taiwan government and Taiwan firms, and has warned of the danger of cash-strapped Taiwan players being lured away by China.

In an interview with CNA, Tseng Mao-hsin said he and Yani are still evaluating Yan's offer because they prefer to have Taiwan sponsors, and because Yan's offer is not generous enough.

"Yan's offer does not cover transportation cost (for her travel to tournaments) which is the biggest item of her expenses. What is more, if Yan sponsors Yani, she will be barred from advertising for other sports companies, and that makes his offer even smaller," CNA quoted him as saying.

"We are not in a hurry to close the deal with Yan because several other companies are also seeking to sponsor Yanbi," he told CNA without specifying the nationalities of the firms.

Yan, 60, went to Thailand from China at the age of 30 and became a successful entrepreneur.

In the past 20 years, he launched Thailand's Ruoy Chai Group which has grown into a multi-national company.

In 1995, the group began to invest in China and now counts Red Bull Vitamin Drink, Beijing Wonderland and the Rouy Chai Trade Building as its main investments in China

A fervent golf fan, Yan built the Pine Valley Golf Resort and Country Club west of Beijing to promote golf in China. The 54-hole golf course hosted the inaugural Volkswagen Masters and Johnnie Walker Classic in April 2005, as well as the Valley Beijing Open in 2007, 2008 and 2009.

Yan, using his Thai name Chanchai Ruayrungruang, also serves as chairman of the Asian Golf Course Owners Association which is headquartered in Ottawa, Canada.
